A barrier constructed by Antonio de Arévalo in 1779 to protect the beach that developed in front of the Bulwark of Santa Catalina because of the construction of the Marina Wall (1765-1771), designed by the same engineer to eliminate the negative effects of the pounding of the sea against the walls.
Popularly known as La Tenaza, it was designed to cut off the advance of the enemies who approached through Cruz Grande Avenue. It has walls and parapets with embrasures, a counterguard with a sentry-box, an internal wall and, originally, it had a trench and a drawbridge at the end of the vaulted postern which connected it to the bulwark.
